FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

︎ WHAT IS AUTISM?

Autism is not a disease. It is a unique way of being human. Children and adults with autism move through developmental stages as we all do. They don’t need fixing, they need understanding.  Once we start to understand, we need to change our perspective – our beliefs, our attitude, and our actions. If you can understand the experience and feelings that underlie a particular behavior, you can help an autistic person connect and communicate more effectively. If you can do this, you can be hero to them.

Autism is a spectrum disorder, that means it affects each individual with autism differently.  Each individual with autism has their own characteristics and unique abilities. These unique abilities can be built upon to increase their skills by utilizing strategies of applied behavior analysis therapy.

︎ WHAT IS ABA THERAPY?

Applied Behavior Analysis, or ABA therapy is a scientific approach to understanding human behavior and creating a path to teach individuals to interact, communicate, attend, cope, and play. Each child and family situation are unique; therefore, each functional behavior assessment plan is tailored to an individual's specific needs.
