FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is Behavior Skills Training?
BST has shown it works well in helping people with autism spectrum disorder get better at communicating and socializing. By focusing on specific communication and social behaviors, BST can make it easier for individuals to connect with others, leading to better quality of life overall.
BST is based on the principles of behaviorism, which explain that behavior can be influenced by using reinforcement and punishment. This method includes four main parts: instruction, modeling, practice(rehearsal), and feedback
Instruction: The trainer gives a clear and exact explanation of the behavior or skill that the caregiver is learning.
Modeling: The trainer demonstrates how to correctly perform the behavior or skill, so the caregiver can watch and understand what to do.
Rehearsal: The caregiver practices the behavior or skill, getting help and advice from the trainer as needed.
Feedback: The trainer gives helpful comments on how the caregiver is doing, pointing out areas to work on and praising what's going well.
